Central heating and other electric central heating systems
When you think of central heating, your first thought might be to call a plumber – however, with a vast number of electric central heating options both installed – and on the market, the team here at Simat might be in a better position to help.
What is electric central heating?
Although many people think of gas as a primary means of heating a property, electric heating systems are quite common – especially in modern apartments and converted buildings.
What’s more, electric heaters can be a much more cost-effective way of getting a heating system into a property, often making them a popular choice for landlords who have refurbished rental properties.
Fitting electric central heating
Part of the cost saving at the point of installation comes with the significantly reduced amount of ‘first-fix’ work required when comparing electric heating to gas fired central heating. Gas heating requires pipework to be laid throughout the property as well as needing a flue to ventilate the system.
Electric central heating usually requires a much smaller degree of intrusive work.
The availability of gas and electricity
In some instances, electricity is the only fuel option in a property. This is often the case where a property has been created or repurposed specifically with multiple dwellings in mind – especially where those dwellings are likely to be rental properties.
Gas appliances must be checked a serviced annually, whereas electric heaters require much less frequent maintenance. For this reason, it’s not uncommon to find properties that just do not have a gas supply.
Many rural properties are not on the mains supply for gas either – and while some properties have gas tanks, many just opt for electric heating options.
